We have the motocross pants you're looking for, whether for yourself, a youth, or even for the gals. Before you start shopping, I want to make sure that you understand the purpose and options involved. So as usual, a quick few notes, and then I'll get outta the way.
Safety First: The most important benefit to riding pants is the safety factor. You simply have better control when you compare these ATV pants to jeans, or sweats. This is possible due to the construction of the pants. The material in the seat of the pants is a lot less likely to slide against the vinyl covering of your ATV seat. If you stay planted in the seat, you have better control, since your not sliding all around.
Next is the padding. Not all of these pants have padding, but most do. Normally you will find it in the knee area, and also in the side hip area of the pants. Padding is a good friend to have on those long rides.
And then we have the contact patches. You will find these on the inseam area of the thighs. it can be made from suede, or something man made, but it helps you grip the sides of the tank area. Again this adds to the control factor. Its pretty hard to ride when your sliding all over the place. Not to mention you look pretty silly...
Comfort: Whether your a newbie or a seasoned rider (the new term for "old"), such as myself, comfort is important! And all of these pants have that function built right in. It starts with the material, which is usually a nylon/rayon/polyester blend or combination. This keeps the pants light, and breathable. Also this fabric combo causes a lot of water to bead, and run off, instead of soaking through. (An excellent feature for people that love to play in the mud puddles, like me). There is also "room" in the pants. They should feel a little baggy, that allows you to move your weight to and fro, or hang off the side to make that corner at top speed. Your pants should NOT fit like a glove. If they do, you have the wrong size!
And one last thought on the benefits is heat protection. Think about it, your legs are in very close proximity to the engine, radiator, and exhaust system. The density of the material, does provide some additional safety from burns. But they are not fireproof.
Well enough of my chatter, I think we have 180 different ATV riding pants to choose from, so I will let you enjoy your shopping...
