Greetings all, We have a few recalls to let you know about, and they are just below... Outerwears Inc. Recalls Filters Used in Fuel Funnels Due to Fire HazardRelease # 09-171WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Outerwears Funnel Pre-Filters Units: About 500 Manufacturer: Outerwears Inc., of Schoolcraft, Mich. Hazard: The Funnel Pre-Filters can create a flash when they are removed from the fuel tank posing a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: Outerwears received three reports of flashing when the funnel is removed from the fuel tank following a fueling event. No injuries have been reported. Description: These filters are used to fuel-up off-road and racing vehicles. The recall involves Outerwears Funnel Pre-Filters, or fuel funnel pre-filters, with the model numbers 20-2465-03, 20-2466-03, 20-2467-03, and 20-2474-03. The red fabric mesh filters were available in two sizes, small and large, and in two different shapes to accommodate various sizes of fueling funnels. The name of the manufacturer, Outerwears, is the only marking on the product. Sold at: Various off-road and racing retailers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2009 for about $25. Manufactured in: United States Remedy: Consumers should stop using the funnel pre-filters and contact Outerwears, Inc. to arrange for a full refund. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Product Involved: All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) Units: About 2,700 Distributor: KTM North America Inc., of Amherst, Ohio Hazard: The rear brake caliper support can crack and the front brake operation can experience a loss of pressure, posing a risk of the rider losing braking and steering control and suffering injuries or death. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: The model name and KTM™ logo are located on the side of the recalled ATVs. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Model Year 2008 Arctic Cat 50cc and 90cc All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) Units: About 6,000 Distributed by: Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn. Hazard: The speed controller on the recalled ATVs could fail to return to the idle position when the throttle lever is released, or the speed controller could fail to be at idle on start up. This could result in loss of vehicle control, which could result in serious injury or death to the rider. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. ATVs Recalled By KYMCO Due to Loss of Speed ControlAlert #08-590 The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: 2008 Model Year Mongoose Youth ATVs Units: About 1,700 Importer: KYMCO USA, of Spartanburg, S.C. Hazard: A manufacturing defect in the carburetor can cause the throttle to stick open, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the rider. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: This recall involves model year 2008 Mongoose 50cc, 70cc and 90cc Youth ATVs. KYMCO is printed on a label located on the front of the vehicle, and the model name is printed on a label located on each side of the fuel tank. Sold by: KYMCO dealers nationwide from August 2007 through June 2008 for between $1,700 and $2,100. Manufactured in: Taiwan Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact any authorized KYMCO dealer to schedule a free repair. Description: The recall includes 2008 model year KFX 50 (50cc) and KFX 90 (90cc) youth ATVs. The affected models are green or white with black trim. Recalls Youth ATVs Due To Safety DefectsRelease #08-333 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: SLA90 Youth All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) Units: About 144 Distributor: SunL Group Inc., of Irving, Texas Hazard: The youth ATV lacks front brakes, a manual fuel shut-off, and padding to cover the sharp edges on the handlebar assembly. Additionally, the vehicle is sold without a tire pressure gauge or adequate flag pole bracket. The defects could lead to young drivers losing control of the ATVs, which poses the risk of serious injuries or death. Incidents/Injuries: None. Description: The recalled SLA90 ATVs are intended for children between the ages of 12 and 15 years old. The recalled SLA90 ATVs were available in the following solid colors: red, blue, yellow, green. The ATVs were available in the following camo colors: pink, brown, green, and blue. The word “Sunl” is on the front side of the ATV. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Products: Model Year 2008-2009 Can-Am® Youth ATVs Units: About 1,200 Importer: BRP U.S. Inc., of Sturtevant, Wis. Manufacturer: Vietnam Precision Industrial Co., of Vietnam Hazard: If the rider is ejected and the cord strap is pulled, the shutoff switch can fail to disable the engine. The ATV can operate uncontrolled, until the engine returns to idle, and cause a collision with bystanders, vehicles or other objects. This poses a serious risk of injury. Incidents/Injuries: None. Description: The recall involves Model Year 2008-2009 Can-Am® DS 90 X ATVs. The model name can be located on the side panels. The ATV is black with yellow and orange trim. Sold at: Authorized Can-Am® dealers nationwide from August 2007 through September 2008 for about $3,400. Manufactured in: Vietnam Remedy: Parents should stop children from using these vehicles immediately and contact any Can-Am® dealer to schedule a free repair.
